Stepping Stone

I’m always in the same routine. School, work, school, work. NOTHING else. Sometimes I think of running away to somewhere exotic, Switzerland or New Zealand. Am I running away from my routine or is it my state of mind? Being responsible is something I’ve always known. When I was in Venice Beach, seeing the hobos have no worries, fears, or responsibilities was something I was quite envious of. They wake up with no expectations of anything and just enjoy day by day. Smiling at everyone, enjoying the people and music around them. What was it that was so good about their life, that wasn’t in mine? Their state of mind. They’ve seen the worse they possibly could have, they know their life can only get better. Today has been a continuous cycle of pattern, but is it me just saying the same bad thoughts over and over? I’m usually quite the optimistic person, but I am one for adventure and love surprises in life. Right now, my life is just the opposite. I know this is just temporary, I’m working my heart out to save money to have enough money to move. I’m doing this to myself? Happiness is a state of mind NOT a location. There is beauty everywhere, I just need to find it. Today’s continuous pattern has helped me realize, life isn’t always a field of flowers. But how fortunate am I, that I have the freedom to create my own future? That is exactly what I am doing. Waking up and creating my own future. Each day, each routine, is a stepping stone to my dreams. Isn’t it amazing that with each negative thought, we have the ability to learn? Life is beautiful that way. I will continue my routine – taking a breath of fresh air – knowing I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

  5. your right, a state of mind can change your whole outlook!

  6. Hello..My wife and I spent years in Venice. We used to live in what was called ‘The Ticket Office’ on the corner of Pacific and Navy across from Davy Jones. 5 yrs there..85-late 89
Your post is well interesting to me. I do not think a balance of attitude found in travel is running, unless you choose to call it running. I believe you are correct..it is always about attitude..one just never knows what will pop up. Peace Tony

You are so right, a balance in everything can never be a negative thing. It is all about how you perceive things, attitude can change your entire outlook. And that’s the exciting part; having the unexpected happen and making it a part of your life by learning from it.
      🙂

  7. P.S. thank you for the ‘like’..:-)..Peace T.

This is absolutely delightful. Your insight is compelling. I loved it when you said, “happiness isn’t a location, it is a state of mind.” Very inspirational. Thank you so much for sharing.

What’s even more inspiring is having my friends encourage my thoughts, I am truly lucky to have such genuine, warm-hearted friends. And don’t YOU forget, you are unique. Something special, please don’t let society make you feel anything different.
      Always love you,
      Meg

  11. Beauty truly is all around us, but not because things are innately beautiful, but because we perceive them as beautiful. Would their be beauty if there were no sentient beings to envision it? I feel closely knit to your thoughts. I would like to think I have always welcomed disaster as an agent of change in my potential complacency. And I should also add that I have found it possible to run away without going very far. I turned my life upside down lately, and it simply takes a willingness to risk and perhaps a bit of old fashioned stupidity 😉

Beautiful thoughts! I’m glad you visited my blog, so that I could visit yours!

    • Megan says:

I completely agree with you! Who defines beauty? Taking that a step further, who’s to say what happens to us in life, is bad? We can perceive things how we want. But, isn’t it wonderful that there is something positive in any given situation? The unexpected is beautiful that way.
Thank you for the kind words 🙂 Your poetry is absolutely beautiful, you have a gift.
      Much love,
      Meg

Thanks for sharing Megan! My 15 year old son said the other day, that to move a mountain, perhaps one needs to pick up one pebble at a time 😉

Fantastic post! You are so very correct, happiness is not a place, it is a state of mind! Don’t let your circumstances control your emotions.

  18. Hi Megan. I was so surprised that anyone could “follow” my blog. So it was sort of a shock when I got this email talking about someone following me. Haha, anyhow, I really liked this post. There is a lot of truth to it. I always said that you can’t run away from things inside of you because, without fail, they follow. It’s all about perspective and allowing truth to come into your circumstance to see what is real and what is smoke. So thanks for posting, where so many others can see this. 🙂

    • Megan says:

Amen to that! They do and will follow. Change your thoughts and you change your world.. Has a lot of truth behind it! Thanks for reading 🙂 And I hope you are continuing to writing, I’m sure you have other followers by now 🙂

    Very nice article!
The longest way it is inwards. There have been a lot of old people that have spent their life just in their own village, nevertheless they are quite happy and wise. I do not know why we, in the Western world, have associated exploration with moving to other places. According to me it is just evasion or escapism, the real exploration is, as you say, inside. Beauty is everywhere, our local communities are beautiful. We always have the feeling that somewhere else things are better, but this is just an illusion – we can make things better wherever we are!
Btw, I do not thing the hobos are free of responsibilities – and if they are maybe it is not such a positive thing. A responsible person is the one that can think also outside of himself and support others.
Have great times wherever you are !

You are absolutely right! I almost feel contradicting saying that, because in a couple of months I will be moving. But it’s not an impulse decision, it’s some place where I have roots. That makes it okay right? 😉 I have always wanted to live on the beach. And you know what! I also think in life there should be no limits for yourself. Thank you for reading and I have enjoyed your insight 🙂
